Day 5 of our adventure in Uganda, we did
our usual routine (Getting up and ready). Due to the fact it was Sunday we
decided to put together a play for church in Maya. Last night Ian inspired us
with his life story as to why he became a youth worker; he then showed us a
video of Derek the athlete in the Olympics in 1992 which was where the idea of
our play came from. When we arrived at church we were greeted by the Ugandan community,
which made us feel very welcomed. In church we introduced ourselves to the
community with the help of the Pastor. Hannah gave a speech about CRED and what
work she does to help others this was followed by song and praise. If for any
reason you did not do the dance moves we were told we had to do press-ups!
Luckily none of our group had to do this.
After this, we played a game called The Glory Train. After this we played a game that we would
call “Duck Duck Goose” but they would call it “Drop The Hanky.” This was a game
where we had a hanky and we had to drop it behind somebody and run to sit down
in our seats before they got us. Following this we taught them a game that many
people would call “what’s the time Mr Wolf” but we called “hot chocolate.” By this time service was coming to an end.
They asked us a few questions for example what surprised us when we came to
Uganda and how it was different to what we thought it would be like. We said our thanks and goodbyes and they sang
a blessing to us as we left. After leaving church we went back to John’s clinic
at Maya. Here, we had lunch and some fizzy drinks waiting for us. Lunch was
delicious and un-usual to which we would usually have. After lunch we then
played with the children and then got on the road back home before the rain
started! We arrived back home in Ntinda and chilled out until dinner was
served. Dinner was lovely – we are eating great out here!
