Tuesday 28th October by Connie and Chynna

Today has been amazing!! My (Connie’s) suitcase finally arrived this morning after 3 days which was a really good start to the day. Bless the man that drove to the airport to collect it for me, I am extremely thankful to him. After I got my suitcase we drove up to the Acholi community for our second day teaching the children. I am based in the big church so the theme for today was music. Beth L, Beth DC, and I had the first lesson which definitely went better the second time we taught it than the first. In the first lesson it was alright we just figured that we should organise the groups properly etc etc but the second time round went a lot more smoothly:). The weather here is really weird, one minute it would be hot and sunny, then the next it would hammer it down. Really heavy rain, nothing like England at all, there would be thunder and the streets would turn into rivers. It is horrendous, and it happeneed today in the middle of an activity. Thankfully not ours haha. When school had finished for all the students, everyone who was teaching in the big church learnt how to make beads. It was really fun and I made a necklace out of the beads I made. After that we went back to Johns and we are having the nicest food ever literally a huge thank you to John's wife and friends for cooking for us every night, I think I speak for everyone when I say they never disappoint and nothing gets wasted. Today has been really really great.
Connie says 'Missing everyone, I am having a fab time and I can't wait to tell you all about it x'
Jade says 'hi mum I don't miss you x'
Beth DC, Poppy, Joanna and Tia says 'thanks for the message Molly x'
Ellie says 'I love you mum, dad and all the family, thank you for your messages. I am having lots of fun and can't wait to hear all of your messages x'
Jack says 'love you famalam ting tong x’

Chynna adds:
This couple of days have been emotional, exciting and interesting !
The lessons are going so well and teaching the children lots of colours and letters so far. Looking forward to tommorow as we are teaching numbers.
The lessons we had today were all about colours. The children loved the painting the most as it was all exciting, we put paint on their hands and printed them on to sheets of paper and they drew pictures of us with all sorts of colours and shapes. They played twister and they enjoyed it but I enjoyed it alot more I think ;) haha.
Lots of love to all my family and thanks for all kind messages as you know mum I cried! chynna xxx
Jamie says ‘missing you all thank you for all messages love you loads xx’

Paul adds: what an amazing team working so hard with such great children. Tonight we heard the story of the Acholi and why they are living in Kampala and not their homes in the north. We heard harrowing stories of the Lords Resistance Army and child soldiers and the war that took place in Northern Uganda. We interviewed three guests from the Body Shop Foundation Funded “I Live Again Uganda” programme. They provide support for former Child Soldiers. Lots of tears and deep thinking as well as so many new things learnt. What an unforgettable night. Be proud of your children but be prepared for them returning changed for good!

If you are inspired by the words or images you have seen and wish to support the work with the Acholi people then please follow the link below. Thanks from all of the team!

Danushka, look at you talking to people and socialising, not a single book in sight. No but seriously do you have bookworm withdrawal symptoms? Also, it's nice to know Chaila is outside, amongst the world, and not bumming around our house. For once. Goodness.

Hope you're all having fun.
