Summer Kenya team ready to depart!

It's Friday afternoon, and this time tomorrow the Summer Kenya team will be sitting on a plane bound for Nairobi International airport and a week of volunteering in a school in Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya.
Most bags are packed, and those that aren't are nearly there! After almost 2 years of planning, fundraising and preparation, the time has finally come to actually go to Kenya and put everything into practice - and we can't wait!

The team comprises 29 people in all, including 14 from Yate International Academy, 2 guys who are doing some filming, Helen and Simon who are leading the trip, and 11 lovely individuals who make up the rest of the crew.

Some of the team have been before and loved it so much that they are returning, some of the team have been on other CRED trips and now want a bit of the Kenya magic, and for some it is their first time doing anything like this.

Whilst out there we will be spending our days at Spurgeons Academy, a school that is a partner of CRED and is based in the informal settlement / slum area of Kibera. This is the biggest slum in East Africa, and home to massive amounts of poverty and deprivation, and it is a privilege for us to be able to go there and do what we can to bring smiles and laughter to the faces of the children with whom we will work.

We will be blogging most days (internet link permitting), so please keep coming back and seeing how we are doing, and thanks in advance for all your support, best wishes and prayers.

Until the next installment, it's over and out from:

Helen, Simon, Gillian, James, Amy, Jade, Rochelle, Georgia, Millie, Emma, Ellie, Mason, Reece, Shannon, Shannon, Melissa, Laurie, Ellie, Alice, Briany, Claire, Bobby-Leigh, Carissa, Barbara, Natalie, Rozzie, Vicky, Ross and Josh
