Bulgaria Thursday, by Amy and Keely

We woke up earlier than usual to celebrate Taylor’s birthday in which we woke her up and gave her a bottle of Prosecco that Mollie kindly decorated for her. We put a banner, balloons and stars on her door before she woke up and we all sang happy birthday to her in her room, when Carly’s vocals were on point.

We went to breakfast at 8 o’clock like usual and then got our resources ready for the day. We left the hotel at 8:30 to go to the kindergarten which was quite far from the hotel but we managed the resource bags by sharing handles which was hard work.

The classes we taught were quite awkward at first because they didn’t understand any English but it got easier as the lesson went on. We stayed there until 11:30, it was really upsetting leaving the children because we really enjoyed teaching them so it was hard knowing that we will probably never get to see them again.

We went straight to the Social Centre to have lunch and waited for the children to arrive while Taylor blew out her candles on her birthday cake. The lesson with the children was extremely fun as we were writing and decorating our t-shirts and then we had a talent show. It was nice to see the Bulgarian children’s’ talents and also bribing some of our team members to sing and dance. Dian one of the translators taught Carly breakdancing which was very good may I add. Definitely one of Carly’s many hidden talents. We got recorded which was going to be put on a Bulgarian TV channel whilst Amy was singing. The workers at the centre gave us presents which we really appreciated. When it was time to leave and say goodbye it was really emotional and upsetting because we had a great time with them.
We went to a shopping mall on the way back to the hotel which had an arcade and shops in. We stayed there for a bit then went back to the hotel for dinner and debrief.

We’re so upset to be leaving Bulgaria as we’ve had an amazing time and met some amazing children and people and this experience will stay with us for a life time.
